Throughout March 2024, Mentoring Across Borders partners Confederation of European Senior Expert Services CESES and Centre for European Volunteering CEV hosted a series of focus groups, in person and online, in order to explore the experiences of utilising mentorship to support volunteers with disabilities. The focus groups aimed to identify the main barriers and issues organisations face when attempting to support volunteers with disabilities, and the barriers faced by the volunteers themselves.
Mentorship was discussed extensively as a potential innovative way of supporting volunteers with disabilities, therefore making volunteering more accessible and inclusive. These findings will be compiled into a state of the art report, which will provide useful lessons and highlight key issues which can further emphasise how mentorship programmes such as MAB can be more inclusive and raise the inclusivity of mentoring hubs more widely.
